ILOILO CITY, Jan. 25 (PIA) - Iloilo City mayor Jerry Trenas said the Dinagyang Digital 2021 is one of the best Dinagyangs in the festival's history.
"Despite the strict health protocols being followed by everyone due to the pandemic, we showed the whole world that Ilonggos are one as we celebrated the biggest feast of the city, the feast of our patron saint, Senor Sto. Nino," Trenas said.
He said that the staging of the Dinagyang Digital is a manifestation of the resilience of the Ilonggos and their commitment to preserving Iloilo's rich cultural heritage.
"One Dinagyang Presentation is a testament of our resilience as a community," he said.
Trenas also lauded the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. as the new organizing committee of the Dinagyang Festival, for giving the 360-degree twist, providing the Ilonggos an all-new experience.
"Kudos to the men and women of Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., the warriors coming from the different schools and to everyone who took care of the little things so that our digital celebration will push through," he said.
Treñas said that the pandemic may have altered the city's plans, and changed the Ilonggos way of life, but what remained intact is the faith of the Ilonggos.
"I am certain that Senor Sto Nino is smiling in the heavens saying to himself the Ilonggos are at it again - and always shouting to the heavens," he added.
The Iloilo Dinagyang 2021 core celebration with the theme "One Dinagyang, One Iloilo, Halad Kay Senor Sto. Nino" held Jan. 24, started with an online solemn mass at the San Jose de Placer Parish.
This was followed by "One Dinagyang Digital Presentation" featuring the 360-degree tribe performances from the seven districts of Iloilo City. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo/Thumbnail photo is a screen grab from Dinagyang Digital Live Presentation)
